Student Services

Today’s students—whether they study on or off campus—need access to high quality student services. By putting services online, institutions can make them available beyond the traditional work hours and from any place. If these online services are designed well, they can provide a higher level of service more efficiently and effectively. This can lead to more successful students, higher retention rates, and reduced costs for the institution.

Nearly a decade ago WCET began conducting research in best practices in student services online.   In March 2003, WCET published the Guidelines for Creating Student Services Online as a result of its FIPSE-funded project Beyond the Administrative Core: Creating Web-Based Student Services for Online Learners

Since that time, additional resources for institutions have been developed in consulting projects and are now made available through the Center for Transforming Student Services (CENTSS). These include the CENTSS Online Audit Tool, additional research in best practices, workshops, and consulting services.
