Audit Services
In today’s increasingly competitive higher education market, institutions realize that providing good student services online is critical to attracting and retaining students. But putting services online is a new responsibility for most student service staffs and many seek a way to benchmark their progress in serving students via the Web.
Recognizing this emerging need as early as 2002, the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System MnSCU contracted with WCET’s Pat Shea and Darlene Burnett of Burnett and Associates to research best practices in Web-based services and to co-develop an audit tool to help measure the sophistication of the e-student services offered by its 32-member campuses.
Working with consultants in the various student service areas and MnSCU’s E-Student Services Committee, Shea and Burnett developed the tool for 20 student service areas. It was then tested with the MnSCU institutions. Based on MnSCU’s experience, it was determined that other institutions might find this tool useful and a partnership was formed with Seward Inc. to develop an online version of the CENTSS Online Audit Tool that institutions can license through the Center for Transforming Student Services.

About some of our campus audits
"As early adopters we faced a proliferation of service unit pages. The audit allowed us to focus our discussions on some of the best ways to improve the delivery of a wide range of services from a student's perspective." |
|
"HCC has incorporated recommendations from the audit into its recently updated technology plan. We're excited about improving our Web pages and our ability to serve our students better." |
|
"As a result of the audit, MCTC as a whole has a better grasp of where we were and where we need to go in order to better serve our students. We are in the process of implementing some very necessary changes that resulted from the audit." |
|
"Our work with CENTSS around electronic student services has been a VERY effective way to focus strategically on the critical importance of these services to supporting students and their education goals." |
